The love of BUGS

Today we were going to go to the Zoo, but we ran out of time. My four year old was very upset, so we had to bribe him with a pet grasshopper.
He has always be fascinated with insects. Living in the mountains gives us lots of opportunities to have them cruising around the house, both inside and out. His first love was moths and we were happy to have him play with them until they died (because we would rather have them dead than eating up our clothes). He soon progressed to a particular type of beetle that can almost always be found in the house. Next, he had to keep a cricket from those that we would buy for our pet fire bellied toads, but his current love is the ever present grasshopper.
Today we were having my mom's wheelchair lift repaired on her van in Denver and it always seems to take longer than we expect. So to pass the time we played on a small patch of weedy grass. He was so funny to watch running around to try and stir them up so that he could catch them. At one point he was holding five in his little hands, with heads poking out all over.
It is so fun to see how his little mind works!
